Meta’s Free AI (Artificial Intelligence) Glasses Program Opens New Doors for Blind Veterans

Technology is transforming the lives of veterans in many ways, and one of the most exciting recent developments is a new initiative from Meta that will provide free AI-powered smart glasses to blind and visually impaired veterans across the United States. In June 2026, Meta announced it will donate Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to every legally blind veteran in America, an estimated 130,000 veterans nationwide. The program offers the glasses at no cost to eligible veterans and includes training and support to help users get the most benefit from the technology.

The glasses use built-in cameras, speakers, microphones, and artificial intelligence to help users navigate everyday tasks. They can read text aloud, identify objects, describe surroundings, recognize products, and provide hands-free assistance in a variety of situations. The glasses also integrate with Be My Eyes, letting users connect with sighted volunteers when they need human assistance.

Organizations serving blind and visually impaired veterans are partnering with Meta to provide training, resources, and ongoing support to participating veterans, helping ensure they can confidently use the technology in their daily lives.

For many veterans, vision loss can create barriers to independence. Programs like this demonstrate how innovative technology can help bridge those gaps, empowering veterans to navigate the world with greater confidence and accessibility.
